Concast are currently on site erecting a new flagship Waitrose Store, at Sevenoaks Kent. The project has included the complete demolition of the existing Waitrose store to allow for the redevelopment of a modern retail facility above two levels of open plan car parking. RG Carter Projects choose a Precast Concrete frame for the multi-storey car park primarily due to the associated quick erection program and high quality of finish achievable.
At Sevenoaks, Concast are providing a complete super-structure package. Our skilled team are overseeing the design, manufacture, delivery and installation of the composite Precast and structural steel frame along with the associated structural screeds. The steel retail unit, which sits above the Precast car park, will be accessed directly from Sevenoaks High Street on completion.
The project has presented many design and installation challenges primarily due to the site’s town centre location, close proximity to adjoining buildings and also the near total proposed plot coverage. Many of the complex issues have been simplified by Concast overseeing the entire super-structure, which totals approximately 10,000 sqm, reducing the number of sub-contractors on site and allowing for a more streamlined erection program using Concast’s mobile cranes.
The design of the multi-storey car park comprises Precast spine beams spanning between multi-storey Precast columns, with Precast spandrel panels forming the external leaf. The considerable loads and clear span requirements required substantial 400 and 500 deep Precast hollowcore floors, the majority of which extend over 15m. The Precast concrete wall panels, Precast stairs and capping slabs run the full height of the structure forming a secure fire seal for each of the core areas. The steel retail frame bears directly onto the Precast frame with cast-in holding-down bolts on beams and some columns.
