O2 Arena, Dublin – New stand

Main contractor: Walls Construction
Architect: HOK Sport Architecture
Engineer: Buro Happold

Scope of work: Seating Units, Wall Panels, Stairs.

The O2 arena is a state of the art new leisure stadium in the heart of Dublin's docklands area. It stands at the location of the old Point Depot, but little of the original structure remains as the site was completely redeveloped. The arena has a capacity of over 14,500 (standing) or 9,500 (seated) and intends to stage 150 live events each year, catering to a projected target audience of two million customers annually. It is the largest indoor venue in Ireland. Prior to re-development, the seating capacity was 3,500 seated or 6,000 standing.

The furthest seat is 60 metres from the stage, 20 metres closer than in The Point. This was achieved by arranging the seats around the stage in a gigantic "fan" formation which the architects likened to the Colosseum of Rome.

Concast cast all seating units, vomitory walls and stair units in this development. This was a high spec development and quality of finish was very important to the client, which was delivered by Concast. Curved wall panels were also required for this development, which Concast have cast in many of their recent projects.

Area of Stand - 2,500 sq. m
